Stuck on theGreat Alpine Road

The road from Bruthen through Ensay, Swifts Creek and Omeo to Dinner Plain is long, winding and often out of phone range. A bit of planning while you wait makes the recovery faster and safer.

Stuck on the Great Alpine Road

Where I recover from

I run the Great Alpine Road from Bairnsdale and Bruthen through Ensay, Swifts Creek and Omeo, and on towards Dinner Plain. The Omeo Highway and back roads by arrangement.

It is a long run, so I give you an honest arrival time when you call. Snow, ice and road closures can change the plan in winter.

Do this now

  • Get the car off the road on a straight stretch if you can, away from blind corners
  • Turn on hazard lights and put on warm clothes. It gets cold fast up there
  • Call 000 if anyone is hurt or you are in danger
  • If you have no signal, note the last town or roadside marker you passed
  • When you have signal, send a location pin to 0424 966 333 and call

Can't see your question? Call me and ask. I answer my own phone.

  • What if I have no phone signal?

Move to higher ground or the nearest town if it is safe. Once you have signal, call or text your location. Call 000 in an emergency; it can connect through other networks.

  • Do you come out in snow season?

Yes, conditions permitting. Ice, snow and road closures can affect access, and I will tell you straight when you call.
